My girls are snug and seated,
holding hands,
while low on the horizon daylight falls:
a million fairies with a million wands
have strewn the sky with May-filled madrigals.
They sit there softly whisp'ring wishes new,
while stars about them wheel about on high:
across each cheek I see the very hue
with which the sunset paints the evening sky.
What worlds they see
perhaps I'll never know,
and yet I sense that new dreams soon will grow.
